The social media application is officially down, as of Saturday, Jan. 18, only hours before the law thatbans TikTok from being distributed in the United Stateswas set to go into effect.
Users who open the TikTok app are greeted with a pop-up message that reads: “Sorry, TikTok isn’t available right now.”

Within days, TikTok could be banned from being distributed in the United States and, eventually, stop working as an app altogether if the U.S. Supreme Court does not intervene toblock a bipartisan lawthat is set to take effect on Jan. 19.

TikTokhas restored service in the U.S. less than 24 hours after its nationwide shutdown.
On Sunday, Jan. 19, TikTokannounced on X, via an official statement shared to its policy account, that it is “in the process of restoring service” to Americans aftergoing dark the night prior.
“It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship,” the statement added.

TikTok has returned to Apple and Google’s app stores nearly a month after they were removed.
The popular short-form video app returned to the app stores late on Thursday, Feb. 13, according to theAssociated PressandReuters.
Nearly four weeks prior, PresidentDonald Trumpsigned an executive order giving TikTok75 more daysbefore a law banning the social media platform in the U.S. would take effect.
