A 7-year-old boy with autism was found dead in a local Wisconsin river one day after he went missing, authorities said.
The spokesman said that Jacob’s parents “lost sight of him” while he was “playing outside.”
From there, “an immediate search was conducted throughout the night” according to the police statement. Alerts were also sent out.

On Saturday night, searchers found “several items belonging to Jacob” in the water, the police spokesman said.
The boy’s body was found in the river the next morning.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Jacob Baer,” the spokesman said, adding, “We also ask that you respect the family’s right to privacy.”
Citing the ongoing investigation, the spokesman said “no further information will be released at this time.”

The Two Rivers Police Department also issued a warning to residents regarding the dangerous weather conditions in the area this time of year.
“This tragic event is a reminder of how dangerous the ice can be on our waterways, especially this time of year when it is very thin," the police spokesman said.
