A 9-year-old boy was shot and killed in front of his grandfather’s home over the weekend, his family has said.
The shooting was reported on Saturday, Nov. 30, just after 7:30 p.m., perNBC4 Los Angeles,KABCandKTLA. It occurred on Haskins Avenue in Compton, Calif., NBC4 Los Angeles reported, citing the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD).
No arrests have been announced and the circumstances of the shooting were not immediately clear. The LASD didn’t immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
The victim’s family identified the young boy as Princeton Nicholas Jones, per aGoFundMepage set up to help pay for his funeral.

Referencing the shooting, the page added, “This senseless act has left our family devastated and searching for answers as the investigation remains ongoing.”
Princeton’s mother, Creole Green — who set up the GoFundMe page — said of her son, per KABC, “I’m just devastated that my son’s life… the door was shut in front of him at 9 years old.”
