Adrien Brodyis reflecting on the highs and lows of his career after receiving his secondAcademy Awardnomination.

On Thursday, Jan. 23, Brody, 51, was nominated for Best Actor for his leading role inThe BrutalistalongsideTimothée Chalamet(A Complete Unknown),Colman Domingo(Sing Sing),Ralph Fiennes(Conclave) andSebastian Stan(The Apprentice), at the upcoming 97th Oscars ceremony.

Brody famously won Best Actor for his role inThe Pianistat the 75th Oscars in 2003.

“Thank you to all my peers and colleagues at the Academy for this extraordinary honor. For almost four decades, I’ve experienced the peaks and valleys of being an artist,” Brody, whose previous Best Actor win at 29 made him the award’s youngest winner ever, wrote in a post onInstagramon Jan. 23. “It’s given me perspective and a tremendous appreciation and respect for this moment.”

InThe Brutalist, which tiedWickedfor second-most nominations among all movies this year with 10 each, Brody portrays a Hungarian-born Jewish architect named Laszlo Toth, who immigrates to the United States after surviving World War II and the Holocaust. “Portraying Laszlo Toth, and representing the hardships and yearnings of so many, including the very struggles of my own family, has rekindled my own sense of being and belonging, and believing again,” he added in his Instagram caption.

The actor recently told PEOPLE thatThe Brutalist’s story mirrors his mother’s own life. Plachy was born in Hungary and Brody said she and his grandparents “owned a very similar journey of fleeing war-torn Europeand coming to the U.S. in the ’50s.”
