Ali Wong's 2025 Golden Globes Gown Was Curled with a Curling Iron Before She Stepped Out on the Red Carpet

On the Sunday, Jan, 5 carpet, the 42-year-old actress stunned in a custom red Balenciaga gown which she paired with black opera gloves.

According to anInstagram postfrom style correspondent Zanna Rossi, the bold ruffles on Wong’s gown required an unusual technique. Alongside a photo of the comedian posing in the strapless look, Rossi notes that the “tulle tendrils have to be curled with curling iron.”

Before heading to the stage to accept her award, theAlways Be My Maybeactressshared a kiss boyfriend Bill Hader— with whom PEOPLE confirmed she hadrekindled a romanceeight months prior, following a brief split.

During her acceptance speech, however, she also gave a shout out to herex-husband Justin Hakuta, who shesplit from in April 2022. “I really need to thank the father of my children and my best friend, Justin, for all of your love and support,” Wong said on the Golden Globes stage. “It’s because of you that I’m able to be a working mother.”

Wong’s specialSingle Lady, which premiered on Netflix on Oct. 8, narrates her return to the world of dating in her 40s after herdivorce from Hakuta. In addition to her classic raunchy humor, Wong also pulled back the curtain on her romance with Hader — which she said started not long after news of her separation from Hakuta was made public.

She said Hader got her number from a mutual friend and left everything on the table, writing, “I have had a crush on you forever, and I actually told my best friend years ago that you were my dream girl.” He even sent her flowers when she was on a trip in Europe — though Wong said she dated around a bit before she ended up with Hader.

“I did fall in love again,” said Wong in her special. “Some of you might know who the guy is. And it just so happens to be the man who sent me all of those flowers in Europe.”

The pair of comedians were briefly linked in 2022, though a source toldThe Hollywood Reporterin March 2023 that they were “super busy” and had split “amicably.”

ButHader fueled rumorsthat they had rekindled when he mentioned his girlfriend during the season 4 premiere of his HBO seriesBarryin April 2023 — though he didn’t use Wong’s name. PEOPLE confirmed that thepair had reconnectedshortly after, and several days later, the duo made their public debut as a couple when they werephotographed sharing a kisswhile out on a stroll in Los Angeles.

Over the last year and a half, the couple made a handful of public appearances together including the 2024 Critics Choice Awards and the Netflix Emmys afterparty in January 2024.

Still, Wong has maintained that her divorce from Hakuta has not meant the conclusion of her relationship with her ex-husband. In fact, it’s meant the opposite: During anOctober appearance onToday with Hoda and Jenna, she said that, though people might see divorce as a “sad ending,” that hasn’t been the case for her.

“It’s been this beautiful beginning to many new adventures, and one being — sincerely — the friendship with the father of my children,” said Wong. “There’s value in every relationship and you learn something new from every person about what you like and what you don’t like. And to be grateful to them for that. To be like, ‘We had some bad times towards the end but for the most part, it’s great.’ "
