Bald Eagle Couple Jackie and Shadow’s Third Eaglet Feared to Be Missing After Snowstorm: 'This Is Heartbreaking'

Fans are expressing concern over a possible missingbald eaglebelonging to parents Jackie and Shadow following a snowstorm.

However, after the March 4 announcement that two of three eggs had hatched, viewers are wondering where the third egg or hatchling is.

“We do not know any more at this point,” a spokesperson for the nonprofit tells PEOPLE Friday, March 14 in response to fan inquiries.

The FOBBV spokesperson also responded to footage of a deceased bird in the nest, telling PEOPLE “that is prey.”

“Both Jackie and Shadow have changed shifts, brought food and have attempted feedings like normal. We have only been able to see two chicks during those feedings. We continue to stay positive until we know the entirety of the situation,” the organization said.

In anInstagram poston Thursday, March 13, FOBBV shared a clip from one of the recent livestreams, noting in the caption, “a series of winter storms will be moving through in the next few days bringing some snowfall to the area.”

Referring to Jackie as “an amazing super mom” who handles “storms like a pro,” FOBBV said the bald eagle “covers and protects her chicks with every ounce of her being.”

“Shadow handled Chicks1&2, while Jackie fed Chick3,” the post added of the “dual feeding,” which “could help avoid bonking and sibling rivalry.”

Though the third chick was mentioned in the caption, many fans wondered where it was in footage.

“This morning we only see two eaglets. Are we missing one?” a commenter wrote.

Another added, “WHY DO I ONLY SEE 2 BABIES NOW??? 🥺😣 Please tell me I’m mistaken.”

Others felt a bit more anxious.

“This is heartbreaking. I only see 2 and looks like one of the two are not doing well. And she only fed the one. Anyone else yelling at their screens like me?!?😢,” a viewer commented.

In their statement to PEOPLE, FOBBV urges fans of Jackie and Shadow to follow their official social media channels for the most accurate information, adding that an update would be shared ontheir Facebook accountsoon.
