Clothes of Missing College Student Were Found on the Beach Near Where She Vanished: Reports

The clothes of a20-year-old college studentwho went missing in the Dominican Republic while on a spring break trip with friends were found on the beach where she was last seen, sources close to the investigation toldABC Newsand Dominican news outletEl Nacional.

Sudiksha Konanki, a junior at the University of Pittsburgh, was last seen in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 6, while walking on a beach at Riu Republica Hotel in Punta Cana, according to theDominican Civil Defenseand amissing postershared on social media.

While authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Konanki’s disappearance, the sources told the outlets that her clothes were found on a chaise lounge on the beach and noted there were no signs of violence.

Dominican police confirmed to PEOPLE that clothes had been found but did not share more details.

Konanki was last seen on video surveillance cameras with a group walking onto the beach around 4:15 a.m. on March 6, the Dominican Republic National Police said in apress release. The Loudon County, Va., resident and citizen of India was one of six friends visiting the Caribbean country.

After most of the group left, Konanki stayed on the beach with one other person,ABC Newsreported, citing an investigative report from Dominican authorities.

Police have been questioning the person on the beach, as well as Konanki’s other friends, as part of the investigation. No charges have been filed in the case.

The new details come after Konanki’s father hasasked authorities to widen the investigationto include the possibility that his daughter was a victim of kidnapping or human trafficking.

“We don’t think she would be able to survive for more than three days in the water and I think something else might’ve happened to her,” Subbarayudu Konanki recentlytold CNN.

According to police, Konanki’s body has yet to be recovered amid a “sea, air and land” search “in the entire periphery and surrounding areas, through the use of drones, helicopters, divers, boats, canine units and human personnel, among other technologies.”
