Art Evans, the actor who starred in films likeDie Hard 2andA Soldier’s Story, has died at age 82.

Reps for Evans did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

“Art was not only an incredible actor but a devoted husband, friend and source of light to everyone who knew him,” his wife Babe said in a statement to Deadline. “His laughter, passion and love of life will be deeply missed. While our hearts are heavy, we celebrate the legacy of joy and inspiration he leaves behind.”

In a statement toVariety, Babe said “We are heartbroken to share that Art has passed away. Please respect our privacy at this time. A memorial will be held for friends and family to attend at a later date. Thank you.”

Evans was born March 27, 1942 in Los Angeles, where he got his start at Frank Silvera’s Theatre of Being. He made his screen debut in 1976 on an episode ofChico and the Man.He later collected more than 120 film and television credits in his 50-year career.
