ERmay have gone off the air in 2009, but NBC’s long-running dramaLaw & Orderis bringing some of the cast members together again.

The Jan. 23 episode of the procedural will featureMaura Tierney, who assumed the role of the squad’s newest lieutenant when season 24 kicked off in the fall.

PEOPLE has an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the reunion.

The latestL&Oepisode, titled “Greater Good,” will see detectives Shaw and Riley “clash with an undercover officer unwilling to cooperate” after a music mogul is found dead, while ADA Price and DA Baxter “disagree on how the victim’s reputation could sway the jury’s verdict in the case,” according to NBC.

While Phifer plays a suspect in the murder case, this marks La Salle’s second time directingLaw & Orderthis season.

As for La Salle’s time onER?

“Everyone was just really cool,”La Salle previously told PEOPLEof cast mates likeGeorge ClooneyandNoah Wyle. “We bonded immediately.”

After leaving the medical drama, La Salle began a career directing and producing shows likeChicago P.D., but a decade ago he was drawn back to writing.

“I believe in pre-destiny, in people having a path,” he said to PEOPLE at the time (his three books,Laws of Depravity,Laws of WrathandLaws of Annihilation,havecemented him in the thriller genre).

Mariska Hargitay, who famously plays Captain Olivia Benson onSVU, portrayed desk clerk Cynthia Hooper duringER’s fourth season before she was cast as Benson.

“AfterERI said, ‘What am I — what am I going to do? This is the greatest show ever. There’s no other show. Oh, except forLaw & Order.I said [that] to myself," Hargitay recently toldWillie GeistonSunday Today. “And I was making jokes, ‘I need to get on thatLaw & Order.'”
