“Rescue units responded to the scene to search for the individual without success,” the agency added.
In aFacebook postshared on Monday, March 10, Jason Smith, Fugon’s stepfather, put out a call for help.
“I know the weather is nice and there will be a lot of boats and people fishing along the River,” he wrote. “He had on a green sweatshirt. So please just keep an eye out. Any help is appreciated.”
Smith also put out a personal plea.
“If you know someone that needs help. Or if someone is considering suicide. Please talk to someone,” he continued. “You are not alone.”
Additionally, aGoFundMehas been created to help aid in financing search and recovery efforts.
“We are reaching out with a heavy heart as our community mourns the sudden loss of Marvin Jafeth Castro Fugon at just 23 years old. He was a young, charismatic soul, loving and devoted friend.,” read a message on the fundraiser.
“With local police efforts giving up their search for Marvin’s body, the family is requesting aid for recovery,” the organizer continued, noting that once his body is found, the funds will also go towards covering funeral expenses.
As of Friday, March 14, nearly $4,000 has been raised.

Besides spreading awareness on social media, Smith has been observing the waters and reaching out to authorities as well people fishing near the river to inform them that his stepson remains missing,NJ.comreported.
“Right now, we’re just hoping that somebody finds him,” said Smith, per the outlet. “That’s all we can hope for. Once somebody finds him, then we can bring him home.”
