George Clooneyis teaching his son some valuable life lessons.

TheWolfsactor, 63, appeared on the Tuesday, Feb. 18 episode ofThe Late Show with Stephen Colbertto talk about his upcoming Broadway play “Good Night, and Good Luck.”

While speaking with hostStephen Colbert, 60, Clooney shared that his sonAlexander, 7, is really into playing chess and participates in tournaments. TheTicket to Paradiseactor uses his son’s losses in the game to teach him a life lesson.

“In marriage, and now with the kids, you give away the selfishness of only looking out for yourself,” Clooney told PEOPLE. “It’s a wonderful thing. Amal and I talk about it every day. We feel so lucky.”

In December 2023, Clooney spoke withGood Morning America’sMichael Strahanabout raising twins — and what came as a big surprise to him.

“When you have twins and you’re raising [them] the same time, the same way, and they’re completely different human beings, you realize how little say you have in who they are,” he said. “They come out with an opinion, and it’s amazing to watchhow different my kids' personalities are.”

When the twins were 4 years old, theOcean’s Twelveactor spoke with Marc Maron on theWTF with Marc Maronpodcast about being an older dad to his twins.

“They’re funny, and they pull pranks on me,” Clooney said of his kids. “I just look at them thinking, I couldn’t be happier and I couldn’t be more surprised at how happy I am.”

Elsewhere in the interview,The Tender Bardirector also discussed howbeing an older dadinforms his decisions in life and work. “The hard part is being 60 and just the sheer running around of it,” Clooney said of keeping up with his son and daughter.
