Partial to cold brew? The Hario Mizudashi is incredibly easy to use, as long as you go over the brand’s instructions before getting started. We love that once the extraction is complete, you can remove the filter, replace the lid, and use the pot as a serving and storage pitcher.

The fine-mesh filter contained most of the grounds, but we noticed some residue at the bottom after brewing. That said, cold brew typically calls for a coarser grind size, so this may not be an issue if you use coarser grounds.

While we were able to place the tall pitcher in the door of a fridge, the lid doesn’t seal, so you can’t store it on its side. Plus, the low price point makes it agreat giftor option to try on a whim.

“The Mizudashi was my first introduction to making great-tasting cold brew coffee at home. Even though I have theKeurig K-Duo, I still pull this pitcher out if I want to effortlessly brew a big batch of cold brew that’s super flavorful.” —Kayla Kitts, shopping editor

What to Know About Coffee Machines

Types of Coffee Machines

Everyone has their preferences, and there’s a manual or automatic coffee machine made for each one. If your go-to is cold brew, theHario Mizudashican’t be beaten. For those with a taste for espresso, theBreville Bambino Plus Espresso Machineis a solid choice. And if you love to keep things straightforward and simple in the mornings, theCuisinart 14-Cup Automatic Coffee Makeris a great buy.

Brew Capacity

When buying a coffee machine, consider how much coffee you drink and who else will be using it. If you live alone and only drink one or two cups a day, a single-serve machine, like theNinja Pods and Grounds Specialty Coffee Maker, might suffice. But households with multiple coffee drinkers likely need something larger that brews a full pot, like theCuisinart 14-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker.

Extra Features

Some coffee makers keep it simple, while others have all the bells and whistles. If you like lattes, you might want a machine with a built-in frother — alternatively, you can buy aseparate milk frother. Those who prefer freshly ground coffee may appreciate something with an integrated grinder, like theBreville Grind Control.

Other standout features you might find on a coffee machine include insulated carafes, warming plates, programmable brew times, adjustable temperature and strength, or pause-and-pour settings (allowing you to pour yourself a cup of coffee mid-brew).

Price Range

The best coffee machines come at a vast range of price points. On the lower end, you’re looking at $100 or less for a single-serve brewer or a small drip coffee maker with minimal settings. The most expensive ones can be up to $1,000 — or higher. These are often elaborate espresso machines or coffee-espresso hybrids with built-in grinders, integrated milk frothers, and ample settings. Many of our favorites, including theOxo 8-Cup Coffee Maker, are reasonably priced, often below average.
