After Hawn, 79, appeared alongsideWe Live in Timestar Garfield, 41, at the Academy Awards on Sunday, March 2 to present the award forBest Animated Film, her son Oliver, 48, wrote onInstagram, “This was so touching and unexpected. Andrew, that was beautiful my man.”
At the ceremony, Garfield told Hawn his mother, whodied of pancreatic cancer in 2019, was a major fan of hers and that she gave his mom “the most joy, the most comfort” during her life.
“I cried, I laughed, I swelled with pride and then became concerned that my mom was now gonna love Andrew Garfield more than me,” Oliver wrote on Instagram. “I’m still not sure where I stand. She hasn’t responded to my texts so…. @goldiehawn”

Garfield and Hawn both got emotional at the Oscars. “I feel very lucky because I get to thank that person from the bottom of my heart. That person is Goldie Hawn,” Garfield told Hawn during the presentation, as the pair held hands. “You’ve given us movies full of joy. You’ve lifted our spirits, and you’ve made us feel it all was right with the world, over and over again.”

Hawn gushed over Garfield’s words and responded, “Thank you so much, that really touches me. I was so lucky [to] make movies… and making people laugh. And maybe some didn’t, but that’s okay.”

Garfield has spoken about his grief for his mother Lynn in recent months. He toldThe Hollywood Reporterin September 2024 that realizing “this has been the way it’s been since time immemorial” has helped him cope with his grief.
“Sons have been losing their mothers, daughters have been losing their mothers [since the beginning of time]," he said. “We’re lucky if it’s that way around, rather than the other. And, of course, countless parents lose their children in one way or another too, I can’t even imagine what that must feel like.”
