Warning:The Night Agentseason 1 spoilers ahead!

In the fictional universe ofThe Night Agent, there’s a phone in The White House basement that never rings — until one day it does. The call sets low-level FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) off on a wild goose chase to find a dangerous government mole and stop an assassination attempt before it’s too late.

After Peter and tech entrepreneur Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) slowly uncover the conspiracy to take out President Michelle Travers (Kari Matchett) and expose the high-level official who covered it up, season 1 ended with quite a few loose ends. Only Vice President Ashley Redfield (Christopher Shyer) and White House Chief of Staff Diane Farr (Hong Chau) were brought to justice for their roles in the assassination attempt while their shady co-conspirator Gordon Wick (Ben Cotton) was still on the run.

“She feels like he’s not the same person, but I think deep down she knows he’s still in there,” the actress said. “He’s just so caught up with the job, and that’s all he can see and that’s all he’s focused on.”

So how didThe Night Agentseason 1 end? Here’s everything to know about the assassination attempt against President Travers and what’s in store for Peter and Rose in season 2.

Farr is shot during all the commotion at Camp David, but Rose helps her survive so that she can publicly clear Peter’s name.

While her future is unclear, showrunner Shawn Ryan toldTudumin 2023 that he doesn’t think she’ll be able to avoid whatever punishment comes her way.

“We can safely assume that Diane Farr has a very difficult criminal trial in her future after probably a difficult hospital stay,” he said. “Her life is about to get decidedly worse.”

After saving her from assassination, President Travers promotes Peter to the role of Night Agent. But because the job will include a lot of cross-continental travel — along with fighting bad guys and taking down national security threats — his romantic future with Rose is uncertain.

Though Buchanan maintains that feelings between the two characters are “definitely there,” Peter’s emotional unavailability and assumed responsibility for Rose’s safety could make their dynamic in season 2 difficult.

Was Peter’s dad a traitor?

Throughout season 1 ofThe Night Agent, viewers learn that Peter Sutherland Sr. (Sebastien Roberts) was an FBI agent accused of treason who died before he was convicted. Peter asks President Travers for the truth about who his father was, and she shows him Peter Sr.’s taped confession admitting to feeding government secrets to a foreign agent in exchange for money.

However, Peter’s dad didn’t die in a car accident as he and the public had been led to believe. Prior to his death, Peter Sr. agreed to be a double agent for The White House to redeem himself and was killed while undercover.

Though it’s hard to trust anyone under the circumstances, Peter will have to rely on old pals like Rose and new allies like Night Action veterans Alice (Brittany Snow) and Catherine (Amanda Warren) to unravel this new conspiracy and make it out alive.
