In 2022, Paramount announced that it had greenlita fourthStar Trekfilmin the Kelvin timeline and expected the original cast to reprise their roles. However, as of January 2025, the movie is in the very early stages of development with the script still being written.

In December 2024, Saldaña gave an update during aDeadlineinterview, saying, “I wish we were able to do it sooner rather than later. I feel like a lot of us have a full head of gray hair, so we need to do this quickly, if this is the same cast that’s going to reprise it again.”
