Ill. Woman Survives After Daughter Allegedly Stabbed Her in the Head with a Kitchen Knife

An Illinois woman was charged for allegedly stabbing her mother in the head on Thursday, Feb. 13, in Vernon Hills, Ill., according toABC 7,Fox 32andLocal News 8.

Ten minutes after the initial call, Almanza was located about half a mile from the residence. Almanza was then arrested, and authorities recovered the kitchen knife she allegedly used in the crime.

Almanza was charged with two felonies: aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Fox 32 reports that, as of Wednesday, Feb. 19, she remains in custody at the Lake County Jail.

Almanza’s mother was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Ill. She was treated for a stab wound to the head and was later released.

A representative for Vernon Hills Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for more information on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
