Jenna Bush Hageris sharing some insight into a weekend visit from her momLaura Bush— and how the former first lady’s Secret Service detail left her granddaughter “quite overwhelmed.”
On Monday, March 3, the 43-year-old television host caught up withSavannah Guthrieon the latest episode ofToday with Jenna and Friends, when she and her guest co-host spoke about Bush Hager’s weekend with family. During the conversation, the pair pulled up an image of Bush Hager’s mom, Laura, 78, posing next to Bush Hager’s three children,Mila,Poppy, andHal, who she shares with husbandHenry Chase Hager.
As she explained, Laura was in town and had “so much fun” with her grandchildren despite the “freezing” weather as they posed for a sweet familial snap. But there was one aspect of the weekend that may have been a little much for one of her children.

Guthrie, 53, then asked Bush Hager if her children are “used to the Secret Service” at this point, as they’re both the grandchildren of former PresidentGeorge W. Bushand great-grandchildren of the late George H. W. Bush. “It’s all they’ve ever known, but do you feel like as they’re getting older, they’re like, ‘Oh, who are these people,'” Guthrie asked.
“Yeah and also when we hang with my parents, it’s usually where there’s not much Secret Service presence,” she clarified. “And yesterday there was some. And Mila was like, ‘Are you humiliated?’ And I’m like, ‘No, Mila, I’m used to this.’”
Bush Hager added that she and her husband also “got engaged with a Secret Service man 100 feet away,” although she hasn’t told her kids “all those stories.”
“They like to threaten Hal with fake policemen all the time, and so Mila was like, ‘Hal, these are Secret Service men, they can arrest you.’ And Hal was like, ‘But I didn’t do nothing! But I didn’t do, I’m innocent,' " Bush Hager joked of her youngest child, 5.

“I have nothing to announce,” Bush Hager said, following a self-started drumroll. “I’m pretty sure I’ve come to terms that three, even though it’s an imperfect number, is the perfect number for our house.”
“It’s very normal,” Guthrie added. “I think they call it ‘being broody.’ You’re kind of broody for a third or a fourth. I would have had a third in a heartbeat, but, you know, I was up against the clock.”
Guthrie previously caught up with PEOPLE atBush Hager’s partyto celebrate four years of herTodaybook club back in 2023, when she shared that their kids are “still buddies.”
“It was such a beautiful moment in time, those five, six, seven years that we were neighbors. Our kids grew up together,” she said. “They were more like cousins than anything. Hal, her youngest, is my godson, so my kids like to call the other kids their godbrothers and sisters. And it feels like family.”
