Jessica Simpsonhas said her new music is her most personal yet — and her latest song may offer new insight into thebreakdown of her marriageto Eric Johnson.

Simpson, 44, released the single “Leave” on Friday, March 7, off her upcoming EPNashville Canyon: Part 1, two months after she announced she and Johnson, 45, areseparating after 10 years of marriage.

In the lyrics of the mid-tempo track, which debuted at No. 8 on iTunes' Top Americana Songs, the singer and actress addresses a former lover who has seemingly left her for another woman.

“What we had was magic/Now you made it tragic/Giving her what you gave to me/Now the well that you drink from’s empty/Your weakness made me lonely,” she sings. “Unholy matrimony/Did you do to her what you did to me? Was she on her knees?”

Simpson then sings on the chorus that she wants her partner to leave, as she’d “rather die than let you be inside me with her on your mind.”

“I am stronger on my own/So hold on, I’m letting you go,” she sings.

Simpson announced her separation from Johnson in January, saying in a statement to PEOPLE at the time that the couple has “been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage.”

The star said the pair’s three children —daughters Maxwell “Maxi” Drew, 12, and Birdie Mae, 5, and son Ace Knute, 11— “come first, and we are focusing on what’s best for them.”

In aninterview with PEOPLElast month, the “With You” singer said she and Johnsoncontinue to co-parenttheir kids together.

“I don’t know why my heart gets tossed around but I’m one of the lucky ones. At least I have my children and I still have Eric. He’s still very much a part of my life and will always be,” she said.

Simpson added that having music as a creative outlet was “like going straight into therapy" — and that the"songs speak for themselves."

She added, “I am strong — maybe I’m just meant to love a lot of people in my life.”

Simpson started work on her new EP in Nashville in the fall of 2023, and it comes 15 years after her last album. The EP will be released in full on March 21.
