Back in 2022, while promotingSonic the Hedgehog 2, Carrey said he wasplanning on retiring from his acting career.

Of making the soon-to-be-releasedSonic the Hedgehog 3, the actor told theAssociated Presswith a smile at the film’s U.K. premiere in London on Tuesday, Dec. 10, “I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch. And, you know, it’s just … I bought a lot of stuff andI need the money, frankly.”

But as he clarified in his recent interview with ComicBook.com, “It’s not really about the money. I joke about the money … but I never know. You can’t be definite about these things.”

“I said I’d like to retire, but I think I was talking -resting. Because as soon as a good idea comes your way, or a group of people that you really enjoyed working with and stuff, it just — things tend to change,” Carrey added.

“The thing about it is, on the day, I do that with a ton of makeup and can hardly breathe. It wasan extremely excruciating process," Carrey told the outlet. “The children were in my mind all the time: ‘It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids.' "

“And now, with motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do other things,” he added.“Anything is possible in this world.”
