Joe Alwyn Teases Interest in Being Next James Bond: 'Who Wouldn't Throw Their Hat in the Ring?'

CouldJoe Alwynbe in the running to play the nextJames Bond?

On the red carpet for the 97thAcademy Awardson Sunday, theBrutaliststar, 34, responded with a smile to aquestion fromVarietyreporter Marc Malkin: “Do you want to play James Bond?”

“Oh, wow,” said the English actor. “Who wouldn’t throw their hat in the ring? You know?”

Alwyn jokingly added he’d take the role “if you’re offering!” And when asked if he likes martinis shaken like 007 or stirred, he said, “I like both. I do, I do.”

SinceDaniel Craig, 57, stepped down as James Bond in 2021’sNo Time to Die, rumors have been swirling about who could next play the iconic MI6 agent and producers have remained coy about how imminenta cast announcementmight be. Ahead of theGovernors Awardslast November, siblingsBarbara Broccoliand Michael G. Wilson — who produced the British spy-action franchise until recently, when theystepped downand gave creative control to Amazon MGM Studios —notedthat finding a new Bond is “a big decision.”

“Every time we cast a new actor, the films change,” Wilson said. “It’s the excitement of a new Bond, a new direction.”

The actor toldVarietythat his month filming as Harry Lee Van Buren was “a dream,” adding that he was “quite ill” during his first day on set.

Brody, nominated for Best Actor, was “amazing to work with,” he continued. “I’ve been — obviously, like so many people — a fan of his for so long. So to share a scene with him and work with him for that month was really special. And I think he’s just unbelievable in the film.”
