John Legend’s daughter Luna is one tough negotiator!
The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, 45 — who is nominated for the best children’s music album trophy at the 67th Grammy Awards in February — caught up with his eldest daughter, 8, in a newBillboardinterview, during which she hilariously tries to “compromise” with him on what age she’ll be when she gets her first phone.
Before talking about his latest releaseMy Favorite Dream, Legend had a cute back-and-forth with Luna over how old she’ll be when he finally buys her a smartphone. Legend shares Luna and his three younger children — Wren Alexander, 17 months, Esti Maxine, 22 months, Miles Theodore, 6 — with wifeChrissy Teigen.
“Lately we’ve been getting some good advice on phones and social media,” Legend told his daughter. “And how dangerous they are and how we’re not going to let you have a smartphone til' you’re like 16 years old. What do you think of that advice?”
“How about we…” she said, before her dad interjected with “Compromise?”
“How about we compromise on 9?” Luna added, prompting her dad to burst out laughing.

Elsewhere during the interview, as Luna and Legend chatted about his children’s album — which was released in August — the musician also revealed what he loves “most” about his family.
“So many things,” he told his eldest daughter. “I think it’s the most pure love you can have, is the love you have for your family.”
“It’s so pure and when me and mommy look at you, and look at your brothers and sister, we see ourselves. And we want to pour all this knowledge and all these lessons we’ve learned in life into you and help you become the best adults you can be. And that’s the best thing about parenting.”

“I want our babies AND yours to find joy and inspiration and comfort from this music,” he wrote in a caption. “I hope it helps them fall in love with music and helps them cope with all the worries and challenges they may have. I hope the spirit of LOVE at the center of the album is contagious and palpable.”
“And, when it’s time, I hope it helps them FALL ASLEEP (please!) and dream all their favorite dreams,” he added.
Other nominees in his Grammy category ahead of the Feb. 2 ceremony include Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band, Lucy Kalantari & the Jazz Cats, Rock for Children and Divinity Roxx and Divi Roxx Kids. Legend also earned a nod in the best arrangement, instrumental and vocals category for track “Always Come Back” with Matt Jones, as well as a best arrangement, instrumental or acappella nod for “Bridge Over Troubled Water” with Jacob Collier and Tori Kelly.
