John Mulaney Admits He Wasn't 'Going for Funny' as He Talks Inspiration Behind Baby Daughter Méi June's Name

The comedian, 42, appeared onJimmy Kimmel Live!on Monday, March 10, and was asked about his two kids — daughter Méi June, 5 months, and son Malcom, 3 — whom he shares with wifeOlivia Munn. As they talked about Mulaney’s daughter, Kimmel asked him if he named his daughter after two back-to-back months to be funny.

“Originally, our daughter was going to be named June for a while. And then suddenly I went June Mulaney sounds like John Mulaney said weird, so we said how about Méi — which means plum in Chinese — and so she’s Méi June,” he explained.

Back in January, Munnshared a video to her Instagram Storiesof herdaughter Méiplaying in an activity center with her legs stretched out to the bottom. Using her finest parentese, Munn repeatedly said hello to Méi and told her she loved her.

“She’s so strong and happy,” Munn wrote in a caption on the video. “She’s wearing 6-9 months at 4 months old, so she can reach the bottom of the activity center and her neck strength is 💯.”

The couple’s son Malcolm could be seen in the background, climbing on the bed. Munn included a few more photos, slowly zooming in more and more on Méi’s face as she wore her fuzzy hat. She also included a video of Méi wiggling and smiling as Munn said, “Happy birthday! Hi, happy birthday! Happy 4 months!”

“Don’t worry she’s not a real bear. Happy 4 months Méi Méi!! 🥰,” Munn wrote in her caption.

On the first day of 2025, Munnshared glimpses of sweet momentsthat capped off an eventful year for the family of four. In a video on her Instagram Stories, Munn showed her daughter Méi enjoying some tummy time at home.
