Jude Law Credits Stardom to Parents Bringing Him to the Movies as Kid: 'We Ate Our Bodyweight in Popcorn'

Jude Lawhas his parents to thank for his movie-star status.

As theTalented Mr. Ripleyactor took the podium, he thanked his parents for inspiring a love for movies in him from childhood.

“I had a mother who showed me the great silent movies and comedies and musicals and dramas of the Hollywood Golden Era, American new wave [and] foreign movies. And I had a dad who took me in the ’70s and ’80s to blockbuster movies where we ate our bodyweight in popcorn and chocolate,” Law recalled during his speech.

“To have a place here amongst the talent that I grew up watching in all those films is both sublime and ridiculous,” Law added in his speech. “I want to thank everyone for coming, for making this such a special day for me. I really appreciate it.”

“You can’t act on your own, unlike playing an instrument or writing or painting. You can’t act alone. It’s a frustrating side of the job, but the need to collaborate is very much at the heart of the medium’s biggest reward,” Law said at the top of his speech.

Law is afather to seven children: he shares Rafferty, Rudy, 22, and Iris with ex-wife Sadie Frost; Sophia, 15, with ex Samantha Burke, and Ada, 9, with ex Catherine Harding. The actor shares two younger children with Coan, whom hemarriedin 2019.
