Kate Hudson Admits It 'Was a Bad Call' to Turn Down Lead Role inThe Devil Wears Prada

While she’s had a decades-long career with plenty of iconic roles,Kate Hudsonadmits there’s one role she didn’t take that she now regrets: Andrea Sachs in the 2006 film,The Devil Wears Prada.

Speaking to Capital FM’sCapital Breakfaston Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, Hudson said she was offered the role but ultimately couldn’t take it due to timing.

“That was a bad call,” Hudson, 45, said. “It was a timing thing, it was one of those things where I couldn’t do it, and I should’ve made it happen, and I didn’t. That was one where when I saw it I was like, ‘Ugh. ’ "

Still, the actress said the turn of events was meant to be, adding, “everything happens for a reason.”

“It’s funny, it’s waves of things that are happening and people shooting at different times,” Hudson added. “It’s not like you don’t do them because you don’t want to do them. It’s like, oh, you’re doing something else. And it just sucked, you know?”

The starring role ultimately went toAnne Hathaway, and the film grossed $326 million at the worldwide box office. It was also well-received during awards season, earning actressMeryl Streepher 14th Academy Award nomination.

Hudson, meanwhile, has starred in dozens of projects since 2006 (including 2009’sBride Wars,opposite Hathaway) and is currently in Netflix’s new sports comedy,Running Point.

Netflix has toutedRunning Point, which is loosely based on the life story of L.A. Lakers PresidentJeanie Buss, as a “twist on the underdog comedy.”

“Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job,” Netflix’s synopsis of the series reads.
