The sweet picture shows the pair holding hands as William, 42, kisses Kate on the cheek while she laughs. It appeared to have been captured in a wooded area, with the duo seen sitting on a brown picnic blanket.

Kate and William have become more vocal with their public displays of affection on social media over the last year. In a June 2024 social media post for William’s birthday, Kate wrote, “We all love you so much!” William then reciprocated on Jan. 9 last month with apersonal birthday messageto Kate for her 43rd birthday. “To the most incredible wife and mother. The strength you’ve shown over the last year has been remarkable. George, Charlotte, Louis and I are so proud of you… We love you,” he wrote.

“William must feel so fortunate that Kate has come through this that he wants to tell the world about that love. It shows the intimacy of them sharing that journey together,” royal biographer Ingrid Seward told PEOPLE of their PDAs. “They are able to express themselves in a way they would never have done before.”

Their more recent public displays of affection are a contrast from years past when the Prince and Princess of Wales were typically more stoic in their interactions publicly. However, Myka Meier, royal etiquette expert and founder and director of Beaumont Etiquette, previously told PEOPLE, “There is no actual etiquette or royal protocol that says the couple must refrain from PDA.” The likely reason forthe couple’s restraintis because they are “working representatives of the British monarchy,” Meier said.

The prince has remained a constant support for his wife throughout the past year and Kate’s tumultuous time has further strengthened their bond.

A source close to the royal householdtold PEOPLElast month that the royal couple are “more open” now and “talk about their relationship together.”

“For the princess, family — her husband and­ children — are more important than anything else,” a close royal insider told PEOPLE.

Kate and William, who have been together for more than 20 years now, married in April 2011.

Williampopped the questionduring a vacation in Kenya with friends after eight years of dating. The royal couple shared the news with the world a few weeks later in November 2010.
