On Dec. 25,Shannon Amos’ lawyer, James H. Davis III, told PEOPLE that she hired legal counsel to investigate her father’s death after alleging that her brother, K.C., was guilty of elder abuse.
In a press release, Davis stated that Shannon is seeking information about John’s admission to Centinela Hospital, his condition at the time and details from the LAPD and Adult Protective Services regarding their investigations based on Shannon’s past complaints. Shannon also claims that “someone other than Mr. Amos’ son, who was his caretaker at the time, dropped him off at the hospital and falsely represented herself as Mr. Amos’ ‘daughter.’”
According to her attorneys, Shannon has “made three formal requests for her father’s medical records from Centinela Hospital Medical Center” but has not received a response.
“The family deserves to know the full circumstances surrounding Mr. Amos’ care and the events that led to his passing,” Davis said in his statement. “We are committed to pursuing all available avenues to ensure that these questions are answered.”

K.C. is pushing back against his sister’s actions, telling PEOPLE exclusively that his father lived a happy life up until his death.
“My dad wanted to go to Centinela because he trusted them and they were the nearest hospital,” K.C. explains. “There was a discussion of contacting other family members and Pops said not to contact anyone and I honored his request.”
K.C.’s defense investigator and Vice President of Operations at Homeland Security Services, Inc., Kevin Faler, mirrors K.C.’s sentiments in a statement to PEOPLE, saying that he has been working on K.C.’s behalf on “a comprehensive two-year investigation into allegations of both criminal and civil wrongdoing” for two years.“This investigation encompasses a detailed examination of financial discrepancies, including the trail of John Amos’ missing money and stolen belongings valued in the millions of dollars in Colorado, as well as connected incidents in Memphis, New Jersey, and Los Angeles,” Faler says, adding, “There is no merit to the criminal charges levied against KC Amos in the State of New Jersey as any and all charges have been dismissed.”“The current allegations regarding foul play and elder abuse are frivolous,” he maintains. “John Amos was happy working and spending time with [K.C., Gene and Belinda] writing, producing, and praying with them as a family and as his team. John passed from natural causes at the age of 84 years old. There was no foul play.”
Faler notes Belinda Foster was John’s publicist for more than 30 years. Moreover, Faler said that “John told me Belinda was more of a daughter to him than his own biological daughter.”
“Our legal defense team consisting of KC’s attorney and John Amos psychologist, investigators, publicist, and others are and will continue to work closely with law enforcement and state prosecutors in relation to our own investigation,” Faler concludes. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to presenting the truth. The results of this investigation, when appropriate, will be shared with the relevant authorities and public entities. Homeland Security Services, Inc. is dedicated to upholding justice, protecting legacies, and supporting the Amos family in resolving these disputes honorably.”

“She would be the primary suspect — if you would,” John said in a video filmed from a hospital bed in June 2023. “I don’t know if that’s the right term to use or not. But she’s the one that I would attribute my elderly abuse to. It’s definitely a case of elderly abuse."
The following month, K.C. wasarrestedfor sending Shannon a threatening text that “put her in imminent fear of death.” In December 2023, Johnspoke to PEOPLE, saying he hoped the family could work things out.
“I love [Shannon]. K.C. loves his sister. We just have, I guess, what might be best described in the tabloids as an acrimonious relationship, but everything heals in time, and the love is still there,” he said at the time.
