King Abdullah of Jordan quietly headed to the hospital for surgery two days after his newest grandchild was born.

On Feb. 18, the Royal Hashemite Court announced that the King, 63, had had a “successful minor surgery” to treat an incisional hernia.

“The Royal Hashemite Court is pleased to announce that His Majesty King Abdullah II underwent a successful minor surgery to treat an incisional hernia at the King Hussein Medical City,” the court said in astatementon Tuesday. “His Majesty has left the hospital and will resume his working schedule on Wednesday.”

According to theCleveland Clinic, incisional hernias occur when tissues protrude through a former incision in the abdominal wall that has weakened over time. As hernias can worsen over time, the clinic says most need surgical repair “sooner or later.”
