Luigi Mangione, the accused killer ofUnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, is expected to waive his right to an extradition hearing and could be arraigned in New York as soon as Thursday.
Mangione’s New York lawyer, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, and his Pennsylvania lawyer, Thomas Dickey, did not immediately return PEOPLE’s request for comment.
By waiving extradition, Mangione could immediately be transported to New York to be arraigned in front of a judge.
The defendant was arrested last week in Altoona, Pa., and is being held in Pennsylvania on separate weapons and forgery charges, related to a ghost gun and fake IDs he was allegedly caught with at a McDonald’s when he was apprehended.

Mangione is expected to appear before a Blair County judge early Thursday morning, where he will appear for a preliminary hearing on the Pennsylvania charges before an extradition hearing, which he is now reportedly expected to waive.
However, a waiver had not yet been received at the Blair County Courthouse as of Wednesday afternoon, a Pennsylvania courts spokesperson tells PEOPLE.
