A 23-year-old man says he’s prioritizing “sleep over family time,” opting to leave a group vacation early after his nieces and nephews woke him up in the wee hours of the morning.
In a post shared toReddit, the man writes, “My family (parents, siblings, their spouses, and kids) planned a big week-long vacation at a lake house. I (23M) was excited because I hadn’t taken time off in a while, and I was looking forward to relaxing.”
But his excitement was short-lived, he writes, when his brother and his wife brought their young children on the trip.

“From the first morning, they were up at 5 AM, running around, yelling, and crying,” he continues. “The walls were thin, and no matter how late I stayed up, I kept getting woken up. I asked my brother and SIL if they could try to keep them quieter in the mornings, but they just said, ‘That’s how kids are.’ By the fourth day, I was sleep-deprived and miserable, so I packed my bags and left early.”
Now, his family is upset, he writes.

Some other Reddit users say the man’s story is a familiar one.
“My brother lives in a beautiful house that has no window coverings and no floor coverings. The acoustics are amazing,” one commenter writes. “Their three children were screamers.”
The poster’s “shock” over the loud children, the commenter adds, is unsurprising.
“They’re used to it, because it grew in their family. The kids were babies, then started walking, and slowly involved into the hellions they have become,” they write. “You, on the other hand, dove into the deep end of the pool. Shock is inevitable.”
