Mariah Carey's 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' Reaches 2 Billion Streams on Spotify: 'Beyond Incredible' (Exclusive)

Mariah Careyhas another reason to celebrate this year.

On Friday, Dec. 13, Spotify revealed that the pop icon’s festive hit"All I Want for Christmas Is You,“which was released 30 years ago, is the first holiday song ever to break 2 billion streams on the platform.

“This is beyond incredible. I’m honored to have ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ be the first holiday track on Spotify to reach 2 Billion Streams! I’m so grateful to all Spotify listeners around the world who’ve made the song part of their holiday tradition year after year,” Carey, 55, tells PEOPLE in a statement.

According to Spotify, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is now the most-streamed holiday song of all time in both in the U.S. and around the world. Per the company, the song has grown 120% globally on Spotify in the past five years.

Carey’s Christmas classic has been the No. 1 song globally on Spotify on Christmas Day every year since 2016.

It has been building momentum around the world since the start of the season, with an 860% increase in global streams since Nov. 1. In the U.S. and an overall 1,100% increase since November, according to Spotify.

In April 2023, the melody was eveninducted into the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry, and decades after its debut, theChristmas queen’s hit single continues to break records.

The song remains a reflection of Carey’s love of the holiday,

“Christmastime really is my favorite part of the year,” the “Heartbreaker” musician told PEOPLE in 2021 while discussing her holiday “do’s and don’ts.”

Currently, Carey is celebrating the 30th anniversary of herMerry Christmasalbum and the release of “All I Want for Christmas Is You" with a20-city Christmas Time tour, which wraps in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Dec. 17.
