Martha Stewartis sharing a health update on one of her beloved French bulldogs.In an Instagram post shared on Thursday, Feb. 6, Stewart, 83, shared that her pup Crème Brûlée was forced to undergo eye surgery after getting a deep infection in her left eye.“Two weeks ago, my darling Frenchie Creme Brûlée developed a problem — her left eye became cloudy and then very discolored and then actually very bloody we rushed her to our vet, Dr. Jean Quaintance, who immediately suggested we visit the Animal Eye Clinic in Wilton, Conn.,” Stewart wrote in a candid Instagram post, alongside a photo of her dog with stitches where her eye once was.“Creme had a deep ulcerated eye infection, no tumor, and the doctor advised removing the entire eye,” the lifestyle guru continued. “[The vet] was able to insert an artificial eyeball and stitched up the eye socket Creme was released the same day and has recovered beautifully.“Other photos in the post’s carousel show the Frenchie sitting on an exam table as the vet looks at her infected eye and some up-close pictures of the stitches the dog received.“Yesterday, the stitches were removed, and the operation declared a success!” Stewart concluded in her social media post before taking a moment to thank the veterinarians who worked on her pup. “Many thanks to Dr. Jean and to Dr. Stuhr and his staff at @animaleyeclinicwilton for doing such a great job with Creme.“Never miss a story — sign up forPEOPLE’s free daily newsletterto stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.Stewart has previously been candid about her pets' health. Please consider adoption when looking for a pet.““I love Persians and have been thinking of adding another to my family. I made an appointment to visit as soon as I could, and that same afternoon, I took her with me back to Cantitoe Corners — her new ‘forever’ home,” she shared in a blog post, referring to her farm in Katonah, N.Y.Cantitoe Corners is home to an eclectic assortment ofStewart’s pets, including her dogs and Persians,Bengal cats,peacocks, chickens, horses, donkeys, and geese. As a self-proclaimed animal lover, Stewart once claimed to own “at least 20 cats, 25 dogs, 10 chinchillas, scores of canaries and parakeets, two ponies, three donkeys, 10 horses, many sheep and goats, hundreds of chickens, geese, turkeys, guinea fowl, quail, peacocks, and homing pigeons.”
