Meghan Markle Thought She 'Did a S----y Job' in HerSuitsAudition but the Show's Creator Recalls Her Coming in 'Spectacularly'

Meghan Marklewalked out of herSuitsaudition not feeling the best.

On the Feb. 18 episode of her costarsPatrick J. AdamsandSarah Rafferty’sSidebarpodcast, creatorAaron Korshand producing director Kevin Bray reflected on casting Meghan as Rachel Zane in the series — and revealed that she thought she’d bombed.

When the future Duchess of Sussex came in, Bray said they had “submitted and gotten rejected” on another actress to play Rachel, so they had again begun casting the “difficult part.”

“She’s strong and has a strong point of view, and it was hard to be both strong, beautiful, and likable,” Bray said. “It was almost the same difficulty with [casting]Gabriel [Macht]because it was hard to find people that could play both sides of it.”

Korsch remembered Meghan, 43, came in “spectacularly” — andshe was dressed perfectly for the part, which helped.

“She came in at Tribeca, and she read for us, and everybody was just done. It’s 4:00 in the afternoon, and I was like, do you guys see her? I ran out and got her, brought her back in, and I think I said, ‘Charm them,’ or some little note,” Korsch said.

After her audition, Bray said Meghan told him she “thought she did a s—-y job.”

“I remember. She thought she blew it and was not gonna get a callback, and then she was wrong.”

Adams said itwas “clear” from the chemistry read Meghan would get the part, a sentiment he’s shared before.

“It was a difficult role to cast, and I think we knocked it out of the park,” Bray said.

She called it “wild” on a red carpet in November 2023 as she reflected on why it was having so much success.

“It was great to work on, such a great cast and crew. We had a really fun time. I was on it for seven seasons, so quite a bit,” she toldVariety. “But it’s hard to find a show you can binge-watch that many episodes of these days, so that could have something to do with it.But good shows are everlasting."

She also got in touch with Adams, 43, after he and Raffertyannounced their rewatch podcastin the fall.

“Upon hearing about the podcast,I got a lovely text, saying how excited she was for us and asking how she could help in any way,” Adams wrote in a post on Reddit. “So lovely to still have that kind of support and friendship after so many years apart.”
