Ellie the Elephant and Grimace seemed to be hard-launching a relationship, and fans were loving it.
The New York Liberty mascot and the amorphous purple blob hinted that they could be in an amorous way, according to paparazzi-like photosof the duo posted on McDonald’s social media pages on Monday, Jan. 13.
In the images, Grimace — who became abeloved rally symbol for the New York Metslast season — was seen escorting the pachyderm around Brooklyn. In one shot, he picked Ellie up from her brownstone, while in another, the elephant stood outside a cab. The mascots were also seen riding an escalator at Barclays Center and posing for street-side selfies underneath the Brooklyn Bridge.
“Okay….what is happening,” the company cryptically wrote alongside the photos, further adding to the intrigue.
But just a day later, things between the two may have cooled.
The partnership-turned-collaboration may just be all fun and games, pegged to this year’s McDonald’s All-American Game, which features the nation’s best boys and girls high school basketball players. Past players have includedLeBron James,Breanna Stewart,Kobe BryantandMaya Moore.
