The reality star has also discussed the role her past trauma played in her choice. Hilton toldGlamour UKin February 2023 that the sexual abuse she experienced as a teenager at Utah boarding school Provo Canyon Schoolleft her afraid of the medical examsthat go along with pregnancy.

“I’m just so scared. I think, again, leading back to Provo of even being in a doctor’s office, just all of that. The shots, the IVs that they put in,” she shared. “But I want a family so bad, it’s just the physical part of doing it. I’m just so scared … childbirth and death are the two things that scare me more than anything in the world.”

In an effort to keep her son’s birth a secret, Hiltonwore a disguise to the hospitaland didn’t tell anyone about his arrival — including her family. In the season 2 trailer ofParis in Love, the reality star explained that “if anyone found out, it would bepaparazzi all over Cedars.”

I just feel like my life has been so public, and I’ve never really had anything be just mine.”

The media personality also opened up on her podcast about howshe decided on her son’s name 10 years ago. “Phoenix has a few good pop culture reference points, but more importantly it’s the bird that flames out and then rises from the ashes to fly again,” she said. “I want my son to grow up knowing that disaster and triumph go around and come around throughout our lives. And that this should give us great hope for the future.”

By the time Phoenix was 6 months old, Hilton shared with PEOPLE that her son was already “really great with flying on the plane” and a “good traveler.” She added that she “can’t wait until he’s a little bigger so I’m able to take him everywhere … I just can’t wait for Hawaii, because I can’t wait to have him be with all of his cousins.”
