Patrick Mahomesis ready for a fresh start — at least where his hair is concerned!

With spring on the horizon and the NFL season in the rearview mirror, theKansas City Chiefsquarterback, 29, decided to switch up his hairstyle, chopping off a sizable amount of his signature mohawk. He publicly debuted the new look whilecelebrating daughter Sterling Skye’s fourth birthday.

In a jointInstagram posthe shared with wifeBrittany Mahomeson Saturday, Feb. 22, the star quarterback rocked a crew cut that appeared to be inches shorter than his previous ‘do.

Thedad of threeshowed off his cropped post-season look while while playing with and planting a kiss on Sterling in the post, a supercut of footage from the little one’s birthday party. (The longtime couple also share 2-year-old sonBronzeand month-old daughterGolden Raye.)

Brittany, 29, also shared a snap of Patrick holding son Bronze at Sterling’s party in a Feb. 22Instagram Storiespost, a shot that gave a better side view of the NFL star’s post-season trim. His facial hair, meanwhile, did not appear any shorter.

Patrick’s hair transformation seems to indicate a welcome change following theChiefs’ tough lossto the Philadelphia Eagles at the 2025 Super Bowl earlier this month. The Feb. 9 NFL championship marked the last time the star was seen with his signature, longer hairstyle.

“Whaaat Patrick cut his hair 😢,” one person commented, while another echoed this sentiment, writing, “Patrick!! Where’s your hair!!! I miss it already!!!”

“I’m still an emotional wreck over Patrick’s new haircut 😢,” a different user added.

Others, meanwhile, praised the NFL star’s new look, including one Instagram user who declared that the trimmed style “makes him look so young!”

Regardless of how the public feels about his hair, however, Patrick has been itching to change it up for quite some time now — but just never took the plunge.

The athlete previously mentioned the idea of changing up his appearance in his 2023 Netflix docuseriesQuarterback,USA Todayreported in July 2023.

In the third episode of the series, he declares that he wants to do something “different,” in part because he doesn’t want to bethatdad with a mohawk.

“Imagine me 40 years old with this haircut,” the NFL star says in the show. “I mean, come on.”
