A woman who will soon give birth says she has banned her mother-in-law from the delivery room — and now she’s being accused of “robbing her” of the experience.
In a post shared toReddit, the anonymous 27-year-old woman writes that she and her husband will be first-time parents and, as such, their families are very excited.
“For context, my husband’s family is very large and close knit. Because of this there are boundary issues,” she adds.
Shortly after her in-laws learned of her pregnancy, the mom-to-be was “flooded with congratulations texts from his extended family which infuriated me since I don’t know how far along I am. I told my husband I’m very early and not out of the woods yet of possibly having a miscarriage.”
“My husband got defensive at first but when I told him I didn’t even get to tell my parents or sisters and [he heard] the hurt in my voice he quickly apologized,” she adds in the post.
Now, her mother-in-law has started inquiring about the couple’s birth plan and due date so she can preemptively request time off of work.
The woman’s mother-in-law “looked offended,” but “somewhat simmered down,” she notes.
But now, the woman is receiving texts from some of her husband’s other relatives, accusing her of “robbing” her mother-in-law of experiencing her grandchild’s birth.

But Reddit commenters think the in-laws are most definitely overstepping.
“It’s not your responsibility to provide ‘experiences’ for your mil. She had two kids, so she’s had that experience…twice,” wrote one.
Added another commenter: “Her MIL’s behavior is so overbearing. she is not ‘robbing her of an experience,’ she’s protecting her peace.”
