Rachel Zegleraddressed an Instagram commenter who questioned her casting asSnow White.
“NO thanks,” wrote the commenter, asking Disney why it was “difficult to cast a soprano” as Snow White.

Steven Spielberg’s 2021 remake ofWest Side Storycast Zegler in her breakout Hollywood role as Maria. The movie’s part, as in the Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents stage musical, required an actress whose voice is in the soprano range. Zegler earned aGolden Globe Awardfor her performance.

Zegler facedonline backlashin the wake of hercastingas Snow White in 2021, and made headlines when she said in interviews that the movie wouldmodernize the character.
In a February interview withVogue Mexico, theBallad of Songbirds & Snakesstar said, “I interpret people’s feelings about this film as their passion for [the Snow White character] and what an honor to be a part ofsomething that people are so passionate about."
