RaeLynn’s 2012 song “Boyfriend” is going viral for a pretty relatable reason.
After the country star’s single went viral and she started duetting the clips on TikTok, she noticed fans singing the lyrics wrong.
“That he and I go back so far/Oh my gosh we lived in his first truck/First time we heardShania Twain/Think we were on our way to Lubbock,” RaeLynn, 30, sings in the second verse. However, fans misheard the lyrics, thinking she said “lovebug” instead of “Lubbock,” the name of a Texan town.
Sheshared an Instagram videoon Monday, Feb. 17 addressing the misheard lyrics. “POV: It’s 11 years later and a drama breakup song I wrote at 17 is trending and everyone thinks I said LoveBug and not Lubbock,” RaeLynn wrote on a clip of her lip-synching the verse.
“Should we change it to LOVEBUG? #boyfriend #raelynn,” she captioned the clip.

“I always thought it was ‘on our way to a love book’ hahaha,” one person said. “Keep it! I would have never guessed it to be anything other than Lubbock. That’s how I’ve always heard it,” another wrote.
“30 years old learning it’s not lovebug 😂,” a third realized. “Omg hahaha!! Now I can hear both!!” someone else added. “Haha I’ve always loved this one and won’t be told it’s not Lovebug 😂😂,” an Instagram user protested.
“Oh girl I’m an og ‘Boyfriend’ lover and I’m so happy to see it getting its moment in the sun,” one fan wrote of the song’s now-viral moment.

TheVoicealum alsoshared a TikTokon Feb. 17 offering an alternate lyrics read, saying that the couple was on their way “in a lovebug” instead, referring to a Volkswagen Beetle car, which also seems plausible.
“Here we come in a LOVEBUG 😂❤️💕,” she captioned the clip where she and someone else discuss the misheard words.
This isn’t the first time a famous song’s lyrics have been misheard over the years.Katy Perryclarified the words to her song “Firework” in 2022. In 2024,Ariana Grandepointed outWickedsharing the incorrect lyrics to “Popular.”

RaeLynn, whose full name is Racheal Lynn Woodward, released “Boyfriend” as her debut single over 10 years ago. She toldThe Bootin December 2012 the was “nervous” about sharing her debut single but was also “super excited” to show off her original songs.
“It’s going to be so cool to sing a song that I wrote and really showcase who I am as an artist,” she said at the time.
The country star said she wrote the song about her best friend. “He was dating all these other girls except me, and I’m like, ‘What about me?’ "
