Ryan Reynolds Admits Being Away from His Kids Sometimes Makes Him 'Die Inside': 'Don't Ever Want to Be an Absentee'

Although many ofRyan Reynolds’family members were in the latestDeadpoolinstallment, he’s not quite sure if he’s willing to make another.

The actor, 48, spoke withAndrew GarfieldforVariety’sActors on Actorsseries in a video that went live on Monday, Dec. 9 and revealed whether he’d ever take more time away from his four kids — as well as wifeBlake Lively— to make a fourthDeadpoolmovie.

“My feeling is that character works very well in two ways. One is scarcity and surprise,” Reynolds said as he discussed the third installment,Deadpool & Wolverine, which came out this past summer.

“It had been six years since the last one and part of the reason is that it swallows my whole life. You can’t take your hand off the stick all the way through development, through postproduction into marketing and promo, and then you kind of [stop.]”

As he thought about his kids — daughters James, 9, Inez, 7, and Betty, 4, and son Olin, whom he welcomed in February 2023 — Reynolds noted, “I don’t ever want to be an absentee, and I don’t ever want to miss stuff.”

“I, like, kind of die inside when I see their face and they have a competition or they have a sports thing or something and I missed it,” he added.

“Shout out to Wade Wilson, aka my godkids' sperm donor!” the “Cruel Summer” singer wrote in the caption of her post, referencing Reynolds' character Deadpool’s real name.

“I’m going to need that on my gravestone, actually,” Reynolds toldDeadlineof the post.

“Yeah, that is kind of it. She is the godparent to my daughters,” he continued. “That was very sweet. Not just sweet, that was, like, you could probably quantify a box office based on Taylor just doing something like that.”
