Sabrina CarpenterandDolly Partonare joining forces!
On Friday, Feb. 14, the singer, 25, released acollaborative renditionof her 2024 song “Please Please Please” for the newdeluxe editionof her albumShort n’ Sweet, which also dropped on Valentine’s Day.
Teaming up with Parton, 79, for the duet, the musicians put a country twist on the pop track and filmed a vintage-inspired music video that appears to have a not-so-subtle nod to Carpenter’s ex, actorBarry Keoghan.
In the new music video, Carpenter hits the road with Parton in a truck as they sing the lyrics of the track, before Parton is later seen handing a shovel to Carpenter who is stood in the back of the vehicle. The police soon catch up to the duo and start chasing them, with the camera then panning to a male who has been handcuffed in the back of the truck with a sack on his head and is wearing the same outfit as Keoghan did in the original video.
The song also features a lyric change, with Carpenter and Parton taking it in turns to sing, “I beg you, don’t embarrass me, like the others,” a switch-up from the original, “I beg you, don’t embarrass me, mother——.” When “Please Please Please” was first released, it was believed to contain plenty of cheeky lyrical references to theSaltburnstar, including the line, “I heard that you’re an actor, so act like a stand-up guy.”
