S.C. Man Killed by ‘Booby Trapped’ House After Checking on Family Member: Police

Jordan Dove, 34, was found with an apparent gunshot wound when deputies responded to a report of a shooting at the home in St. Matthews, S.C., on Monday, March 3, according to apress releasefrom the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The sheriff’s office said Dove went to the home to check on a family member, but nobody else was inside at the time of the shooting. While searching the property, deputies found that the front door was barricaded shut and the back door was rigged with a shotgun.

“This is an isolated incident and there is currently no threat to the public,” the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said Brown is currently in jail out-of-state, per the release. The circumstances surrounding his incarceration were not immediately clear.

According to WIS, Summers believes Brown set the trap with the intention of harming authorities.

“This is my opinion…he knew the crime he was going to commit when he left here and went to Maryland,” the sheriff told the outlet. “He knew he would be on the run. He knew that he would be tracked back to Calhoun County. He knew that we would be coming out to get him, and I think he set it up for us.”
