Scarlett JohanssonandColin Jost’s love story is the sweetest.
The couple have been romantically linked since 2017, but their first encounter was back in 2006 on the set ofSaturday Night Live— Johansson was hosting an episode of the comedy show and Jost was in the writer’s room.
After dating for three years, Jost and theLucystar tied the knot in October 2020. Johansson was previously married to actorRyan Reynoldsfrom 2008 to 2011 and to French journalist and art dealer Romain Dauriac from 2014 to 2017.
“I didn’t know what I wanted or needed from somebody else. I think identifying those things was a game-changer for me,” she said on theGooppodcastin April 2023, adding that her relationship with Jost has been successful because they “move around the world in the same way.”
In 2021, Johansson and the comedian welcomed their son, Cosmo. The actress is also mom to daughter Rose Dorothy, whom she shares with Dauriac.
From their initial interaction to their intimate wedding, here’s everything to know about Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost’s relationship.

As it turns out, Johansson and Jost go way back!
In September 2017, theSNLwriter opened up about how the pair — who had not yet confirmed that they were dating —first metin 2006.
“The first time she hosted was the first year I was a writer on the show,” Jost revealed. “So, we’ve kind of known each other since then … she’s the best.”
Johansson’s first time hosting the comedy program was in 2006. She went on to host the show five additional times, most recently in December 2019.
Although the couple had known each other for years, they didn’t become romantically linked until May 2017, when the movie star made a special guest appearance onSNL’s season finale.
After the show, the two shared a warm hug on stage during the customary goodnights and later hit up the afterparty where they were reportedly seen kissing,according toPage Six.
Jost declined to comment on the relationship rumors at the time, telling PEOPLE that he didn’t really listen to talk about his private life. “I don’t really pay attention to it, I just kinda keep doing my life as much as I can. It’s nice to have some time off now and just get to relax.”
Just a month earlier, Johansson had filed for divorce from French journalist Romain Dauriac, with whom she shares daughter Rose Dorothy.

Amid continued dating rumors as the couple was spotted holding hands and sharing a passionate kiss,Jost opened up about his romancewith the Marvel star in September 2017.
“She’s pretty cool … it’s hard to have a lot of complaints, she’s pretty awesome,” he toldEntertainment Tonightat the 2017 Emmy Awards. “I’m very happy. I feel very lucky.”
That same month, Johansson and her ex-husbandfinalized their divorceand settled their custody dispute over their daughter.
After months of keeping their romance low-key, the pair made their public debut as a couple at the American Museum of Natural History Gala in New York City in November 2017.
Though they both walked the red carpet separately, the actress was all smiles as the couple posed for photos together inside the soirée.
“They’re very much in love. It’s serious,“a friend of Jost’s told PEOPLEat the time. “They’re both very respectful of each other’s careers and very supportive. They’re super cute together.”
Another source close to the couple echoed similar sentiments, saying, “Scarlett likes to be in love and has not changed a bit in that area, Colin is good for her because she likes smart men, especially writer types. She is a very bright girl and always searching for that perfect match.”
Michael Che, Jost’s co-host onSNL’s “Weekend Update,” also shared a video of the sweet moment on his Instagram story, which featured the couple smiling as they held hands while skating around the rink. “murrrrr xmas!!,” Che wrote alongside the video.

The couple attended the prestigious fashion eventdressed to the ninesin May 2018. This marked just one of the many events the duo attended together that year.
After two years of dating (and over a decade of knowing each other),Johansson and Jost got engagedin May 2019. The actress' publicist Marcel Pariseau confirmed the news to theAssociated Press, although no nuptials were planned during the time of the announcement.
A month later, Johansson began wearing an 11-carat engagement ring that’s “estimated to be worth $450,000,” according toInsider.
In December of that year, Johansson hostedSNLfor the sixth time, andshared a sweet sentimentabout her new fiancé, saying, “This place means so much to me. I have so many friends here and I met the love of my life here,” concluding with an adorable hug and kiss.

One week before Super Bowl LVI, Amazonreleased its big game commercialfor Alexa, featuring Johansson and Jost. In the commercial, the couple discovers their Alexa device can read their minds, and much hilarity ensues when Alexa spills embarrassing secrets to the couple.
Claudine Cheever, vice president of global brand and fixed marketing for Amazon, toldVarietythat the duo was perfect for the commercial. “Celebrities work well for us when they will poke fun at themselves and are willing to have fun with themselves rather than just show up and be themselves,” said Cheever. “It’s something we are always thinking about when we are casting.”
An Instagram post on The Outset, Johansson’s new skincare line, featured a black-and-white photo of Johansson’s side profile from the bridge of her nose to the top of her chin.Jost commented on the post, writing, “Is this the best way to contact you? I’m starting a similar brand called ‘Part of a Face’ and would love to use this photo. Thanks.”
However, in March 2022, Johansson got the last laugh in an interview withInStyle. She revealed that her husband served as a product tester for The Outset and thought he was having an allergic reaction to a face mask when he didn’t realize it was self-warming. “He was like, ‘It’s spread, and it’s melting off my face!'” Johansson said. “He was completely freaking out.”
During an appearance onTheDrew BarrymoreShowin March 2022, Johansson made fun of her husband’s 1990s high school yearbook photo of Jost sporting a then-trendy bowl cut.
Johansson joked about how bad she thought the haircut looked, adding that she didn’t think she would’ve dated Jost in high school.
“Firstly, my brother had that same haircut … both of my brothers and I just can’t,” she said. “There’s no way. I mean, who decided on that cut as a stylish thing? What hairdresser was like, ‘I’ll try this.'”
During an appearance onTheKelly ClarksonShow, Johansson joked that she and Jost “just threw a bunch of letters together” to name their son.
“It just seemed like a refreshing — it’s so charming. Our friends all liked it,” theBlack Widowstar said of the name.
Clarkson pointed out that both of Johansson’s kids —Rose and Cosmo — are named after flowers.
“They are both flowers,” Johansson said. “Not a lot of people make that connection. Cosmo is a really sweet little flower that comes in different shades of orange and yellow.”
Jost appeared onLate Night with Seth Meyers, where hostSeth Meyersasked if he has anyfears about parenting Cosmo. “I think when you have a decent imagination, it’s worse,” Jost responded. “You don’t have rational fears, you have creative fears.”
Jost went on to say that his “number one fear” for what could happen to his son is “eagles.”
During an appearance onThe Drew Barrymore Show, Johansson andDrew BarrymorediscussedJost’s high school haircut, referencing a black-and-white throwback photo of the comedian.
When asked if she would have “been into” Jost back in high school, theBlack Widowstar admitted, “I don’t think so.”

During an appearance on theGooppodcast, Johansson opened up about her marriage to Jost. She explained to hostGwyneth Paltrowthat their relationship has been so successful because they “move around the world in the same way.”
Johansson added: “I never realized, ‘Oh, it’s really important for me,I need to be with a compassionate person. That’s a fundamental characteristic that has to be there.’ It worked with Colin and I because I was finally able to step back and respect myself enough to know what those [fundamental wants and needs] were.”

Jost accompanied Johansson to the premiere of her filmAsteroid Cityat the Cannes Film Festival. TheSaturday Night Livestar donned a tuxedo on the red carpet, while Johansson dazzled in a pink gown and a vibrant red lip.
The following month,Johansson recalledhow it was “so fun” to have her husband join her at the event. “It’s awesome. I mean, personally, it’s always fun when you’re not just explaining it to them over the phone, but you’re living your life together, these big profound moments,” she told PEOPLE.
In a video for her skincare brand, The Outset, Johanssongave Jost a “spa-like” facialwhile they answered holiday-related questions from fans.
Jost jokingly added, “That was very cute, but then she was so disappointed when it was a human.”

The couple, who were dressed to the nines, attended theWhite House Correspondents' Dinnerin Washington, D.C. As the evening’s host, Jost delivered a20-minute monologue, which included jokes about Johansson and President Biden.
OnSNL’s winter finale episode, Jost and Che read jokes that they’d never seen before during theWeekend Updatesegment. As Johansson took in the show, a camera was trained on her face to capture her reactions to the jokes in real time since more than one of them was about her.
While reading his jokes from the cue cards, Jost said, “Hey boo, y’all knowScarlett just celebratedher 40th birthday, which means I’m about to get up out of there! Nah, nah. I’m just playing. We just had a kid together, and y’all ain’t see no pictures of him yet ’cause he Black as hell.”
Another joke about his wife came later in the segment. “Costco has removed their roast beef sandwich from their menu,” Jost read. “But I ain’t tripping, I be eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid.”
On camera, Johannson appeared to be shocked, mouthing “Oh my god,” as Jost hid his face in his hands.
