Mirror, mirror on the wall, what’s the fairest Disney movie of them all?
Plans for the remake were first announced back in 2016, andZegler was cast in the lead rolein June 2021, ahead of her film debut inWest Side Story.
In August 2024, at D23, Disney premiered the firstSnow Whitetrailer and confirmed that thefilm would come outin March 2025.

Alongside Zegler as Snow White,Gal Gadot plays the Evil Queenin the remake. “I’m so excited and I cannot wait to get into the shoes and the crown of the Evil Queen,” Gadot previously told PEOPLE in November 2021.
Additionally,Pirates of the CaribbeanactorMartin Klebba plays GrumpyandTony-winner Andrew Burnap starsas “a new male character created for the film [who] will sing,” perThe Hollywood Reporter.

PerTHR, the new film “will expand upon the story and musicfrom the beloved animated classic.” Penning the new songs is Oscar-winning and Tony-winning duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The two are best known for writing the lyrics forLa La Landas well as writing the music and lyrics to their musicalDear Evan Hansen.

Principal photography began in March 2022, with thefirst look at Zegler in costume as Snow Whiteon set released that May. On July 13, 2022, Zegler took to Twitter toreveal that filming had wrappedas she posted a collection of emojis before adding a follow-up tweet, “the love this film has brought me is magical.”
Nearly a year later, in August 2024, Disney released the film’s first trailer at D23. “Disney invites you to return to the story that started it all,” they wrote onInstagram.
Thefirst full-length trailerarrived in December 2024, giving fans a peek at Gadot as the Evil Queen. The trailer also features Zegler singing the song “Waiting on a Wish.”

During Disney’s 2022 D23 Expo presentation, Gadot and Zegler shared the stage to reveal that their film would be released in 2024.
However, in October 2023, Disney announced thatthe release date had been pushedfrom March 22, 2024, to March 21, 2025.
