Southern Charm’s Patricia Altschul Confirms She Sold Charleston Mansion — to Her Son: ‘I Gave Him a Good Deal’

Patricia Altschulmay have sold her beautiful Charleston mansion — but she’s keeping it in the family!

TheSouthern Charmstar confirmed that her sonWhitney Sudler-Smithis now the owner of the historic South Carolina home during an appearance onWatch What Happens Live with Andy Cohenon Thursday, Jan. 30 alongside her costar,Austen Kroll.

“I sold my house to Whitney,” she said. “I gave him a good deal, but it’s all for estate planning, for asset allocation and he can afford it. And I’m tired of running it, quite frankly. He has to run it, that was the deal.”

Since the mother-son duo already lived in the home together, the change in ownership didn’t shake up their situation too much.

Kroll then jokes, “Whitney was tired of hearing that he lives in his mom’s house,” to which Altschul agrees, “That’s the other thing.”

The reality star previously went into more detail about the sale of her home on Season 10, Episode 4 ofSouthern Charm, according to aBravo.

During a confessional clip, she explained: “Several years ago, we had a meeting with our lawyers and estate planners and money manager. And they said when I kick the bucket, Whitney is gonna have to pay, I don’t know, 46 percent in death duty [inheritance taxes]. Something extraordinary.”

She added, “The house is now worth, I don’t know, $15,000,000 or something. So we decided that Whitney should buy the house from me and put it in his own trust.”

In another scene, Altschul shared a long list of responsibilities with her son regarding the maintenance and care of the estate.

“There are things that are seasonal,” she told Sudler-Smith. “For example, the gardeners … and the landscapers.” She later added in another confessional, “There are a million things to keep up an old home. For example, in the spring, you have to buy lilies at a certain place for the pond.”

In a September 2024video tourof the stunning home, Sudler-Smith explained that the estate is the landmark Isaac Jenkins Mikell house and it was built in the early 1850s.

He added that the interior of the 10-bedroom home blends together “comfort and style” with an “English country aesthetic.”
