Stephen Amellis gearing up for the upcomingSuitsspinoff’s arrival!
Catching up withEntertainment Weeklyfor its latest cover story about all thingsSuits LA,Amell reflected on starring in the new series as a high-powered attorney named Ted Black — and the character’s special connection to the lead of the original show.
“You’ll notice behind my desk that there’s a picture of a young Ted Black with what can only be a young Harvey Specter [Gabriel Macht], so there’s clearly a history between the characters,” Amell, 43, revealed.
“We came up together in the D.A.’s office. So if I was going to have anyone [from the original cast] come back, I would want it to be Gabriel,” he continued. “I would really hope that that happens, because I am very much a fan of his character and I think that that dynamic would be something that the viewers would really enjoy.”
His wish might already be coming true. In November, Machthinted at his returnto the spinoff in anInstagrampost showing his outfit, which featured a shirt with the initials “H.S.” stitched in and shoes that had the name “Harvey” in the soles.
“When an old friend is in need… it’s time to take care of things and make those very ‘things’ right,” he captioned the upload.
Amell is best known for his role in the CW’sArrow,a superhero series that ran from 2012 until 2020. He later appeared in a spinoff of its own, calledThe Flash, which he said gave him insight into the joy of reigniting a beloved character.
“I’m not the one that invites them, but as far as I’m concerned, all of them are welcome,” he jokingly added.
Aaron Korsh, who createdSuitsand is spearheadingSuits LA,toldEWthat “there may end up being several points of connection” toSuitswithin the spinoff, but said, “I just don’t know yet what they are.”
Still, Amell noted thatSuits LA,which will also featureLex Scott Davis,Josh McDermittandBryan Greenberg,is a new show with fresh storylines, and he hopes fans will appreciate that.
“We’re going to do our own thing, and that’s okay,” he says. “We do things on this show that they couldn’t do on the original.”
