On Friday, March 7, Prime Video announced the long-awaited release date forthe third and final season ofThe Summer I Turned Pretty. The 11-episode season will premiere in July on the streamer, close to two years after season 2 left fans spinning as Belly (Lola Tung) decided between brothers Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno).

In May,the show revealed that it wouldn’t be returning until summer 2025in an Instagram video that showed the cast — Tung, Briney, Casalegno,Sean Kaufman, who plays Stephen, andRain Spencer, who stars as Taylor — playing volleyball on the beach as Tung, 22, declared, “See you summer 2025!”

Season 3 will see the third book in Jenny Han’s bestselling trilogy of the same name come to life. InWe’ll Always Have Summer, Belly and Jeremiah have been dating for two years and are in college together. But their happily ever after starts to rip at its seams, leaving Belly to wonder if Jeremiah was the right choice over Conrad after all.

Last February, Casalegno toldEntertainment Tonightthe whole cast was “excited” to get back on set and “finish the story — at least what Jenny’s vision is.”

Tung told PEOPLE when season 2 premiered that the love triangle at the heart of the story is “beautiful” because it makes even the fans “go back and forth a lot” over who they root for.

“That’s the hope, is that people are watching and unable to make a true decision because I think that’s how Belly feels,” she said. “Both of these boys are so special to her and are both so wonderful and unique and have so much love for her and she has so much love for both of them.”

Of Jeremiah, Tung said the younger Fisher brother is “someone who has always been there, has always been willing to fight for her, has always been willing to just stay home with her if she’s sick, has always been there for her as a friend too.”

“That’s a really beautiful thing that sometimes she doesn’t get out of Conrad," she added of Jeremiah.

Conrad, on the other hand, has “an undeniable love for her.”

“In his mind, he’s always putting her first, even when she’s not feeling it,” Tung said of the older Fisher brother.

“They both have confusing ways of showing love sometimes but young love is confusing sometimes. You’re just trying to figure out what it means to be in a relationship, what it means to be in love, what first love feels like. So it’s really cool to get to explore that.”
