During an appearance onEl Gordo y La Flacaon Monday, Feb. 24, Michael Mejía explained that though he received the car just last week — he’s decided to sell it because of the cost to maintain it.

Mejía’s videoincluded his illustrations of Shakira mixed with scenes of his life. He was revealed as the winner onDespierta América.

“Not only did she gift me a car, but she also gave me money to maintain it, $90,000!” he said onEl Gordo y La Flaca. “However, that $90,000 was only enough to cover very little.”

“So far, all the taxes for transferring the car, legal matters and insurance for six months have been paid. And now the federal taxes are due at the end of the year, and yes, that will be about $95,000,” he continued.

Mejía also said that the insurance for the car is “more than $2,000 per month” and it costs $70 to fill up the gas tank every two days.

“So, with the money she gave me, the car is maintainable for a while, but it’s always quite expensive to keep it,” he said.

The giveaway winner claimed that he’s already received offers for the car — and some have suggested he sell the car in parts.

“Someone offered roughly between $700,000 and $800,000. Can you believe it? That is wonderful. I think it’s anyone’s dream to have their million. A million and one dollar, I’ll be happy,” he said.

Shakira announced that she was giving away hercustomized purple carto a fan in celebration of the release of her song “Soltera” (Spanish for single) in November.

The contest was a gesture of gratitude after the overwhelming love and support she’s received after her split from exGerard Piqué.

“This car was a gift to myself as I began my single life, but I realized that what truly matters is human connection,” she said.

The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer added, “The car, the clothes, the material things — they don’t transform us. It’s the people we love and the connections we build that truly make a difference.”
