Tia Mowryis getting real about her dislike of flying — and how her 13-year-old son, Cree, recently calmed her down amid a bumpy flight.
The actress, 46, opened up exclusively to PEOPLE at theESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Awardsin Los Angeles on Feb. 27 about a recent experience she shared with her son when she was facing flight anxiety.
Mowry also revealed that Cree is “really into aviation.”
“My point is that he’s so into flying right now, and I was like, ‘God, you’re very funny,’ because I don’t like to fly, but I feel like, if all is well, and he continues down this path, he’s gonna be a pilot,” she adds.

“We’re going to put him into flight school,” Mowry continues. “He’s going to be flying planes soon. But I’m like, ‘Who’s going to get in that plane with him?’ Because my behind is definitely not getting into no Cessna! But he loves it. He loves it so much.”
Mowry also shared an update on her 6-year-old daughter,Cairo.
“Cairo is running track,” she says. “She’s like doing these lunges and she’s so much like her mother because she knows the form and everything and I feel like she’s a little type A. She’s just so smart.”
“She’s doing chess, she’s doing hip hop classes,” Mowry adds. “I always say this but I want to be Cairo when I grow up! Like this girl is independent, she is funny and smart.”

“Cree is amazing too,” she notes. “I am so blessed. I really am.”

Aside from her children, Mowry discussed her 2025 in general, saying, “Oh my gosh. You know, I was like, ‘What is this new year showing me?’ We had the fires and some other things. It’s teaching me to just be prepared. You know, I think preparation is so incredibly important. I’m all about being present, right, and staying present. But sometime’s it’s okay to prepare yourself.”

“I feel very blessed to be here,” she says, “And I have so much gratitude to be doing still what I love to do. To be able to be an entrepreneur, to be an actress, to be filming content for socials and just still in the place of inspiring and encouraging.”
“I feel like I’m living a purpose filled or driven life, and that gives me joy,” Mowry concludes. “So no matter what the noise is right now, I’m able to stay present and grateful.”
