Police said Abdur Rahman, 64, was hiking in El Yunque National Forest when he became separated from the group on Sunday, Feb 23, according to theAssociated Press, newspaperLa Perla del Surand radio stationWXEW.
As of Monday, Feb. 24, the search remained active.
“Search and Rescue personnel from the Ceiba and Humacao areas of the NMEAD, together with the OMMEs of Río Grande, Ceiba, Luquillo, Canóvanas and Naguabo, the @PRPDNoticias and other agencies continue the search for a person reported missing yesterday in El Yunque," read a social media update from Puerto Rico’sManejo de Emergencias(Emergency Management).

“At the moment, there are groups searching the Río Grande area and others that entered through the Naguabo area, in addition to the use of drones from @DSPnoticias,” the department added.
According to the U.S. Forest Service,El Yunqueis located in the northeast region of Puerto Rico and is regarded as the only rainforest in the national forest system.
“At nearly 29,000 acres, it is one of the smallest in size, yet one of the most biologically diverse. Come experience the breathtaking scenery, clear mountain rivers, and outdoor recreation opportunities year round,” the agency wrote on its website.
