Twin Brothers Die After Their Truck Plunges Off D.C. Bridge and into River, Sister Says

Two people who died when a truck plunged into the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., have been identified as twin brothers.

The fatal crash occurred around 7 p.m. local time on Thursday, Jan. 16, when their truck collided with another vehicle on the Arlington Memorial Bridge, according toFOX affiliate WTTG.

The truck then veered to the left before going over the edge of the bridge and into the water,ABC affiliate WJLAreported.

The 52-year-old brothers were on their way to a job in the District of Columbia at the time of the accident, she said, according to WTTG.

Jerod, an HVAC mechanic, was driving the truck and Jerel, a carpenter, was in the passenger seat when the crash occurred, she added.

“They were very hard workers, especially Jerod,” Windsor told WTTG, noting that her brother “loved his family.” Jerel, she continued, “loved his music, his guitars.”

The twins had just celebrated their birthday on Dec. 11, according to Windsor. “They came in together and went together,” she added.

“The truck went straight down. It looked like it went straight down,” Adane said, per WTTG.

One of the brothers was pulled from the water about 20 minutes after the crash, according toDC News Now. He later died at the hospital.

The body of the second brother was reportedly pulled from the truck in the river on Friday, Jan. 17. It is unclear which brother was recovered at which time.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing, according to WTTG.

U.S. Park Police did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
